Sarah Viola, with her clear and graceful voice has delighted audiences in both America and Europe. She made her Germany debut as Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with the Markgräfler Symphonieorchester in Bavaria. Of her performance, the Badische Zeitung wrote, “Sarah Viola, having one of the most extensive parts, with her smooth lyric timbre and light American accent, sang her way into the hearts of the spectators.”
Highlights of the soprano’s career include performing a recital at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, as well as singing the role of Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance in concert at Alice Tully Hall in New York City. She was a recipient of the Honorable Mention Award as a grand finalist in the Meistersinger Competition in Graz, Austria. Other highlights include originating the role of Giulietta in a new production of Romeo e Giulietta in Città della Pieve, Italy and performing in Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 at Carnegie Hall with the Vienna Philharmonic.
Ms. Viola is known for her agility as not just a singer, but as an actress and communicator. Favorite roles include: Despina (Così fan tutte), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro) Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), Valencienne (Merry Widow) and the title role in Handel’s Semele with such companies as Opera Santa Barbara, Eugene Opera, Stockton Opera, the New York Lyric Opera, and the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra.
With the New York Choral Artists and Concert Chorale of New York, Sarah has performed at both Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center with the New York Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, and the Royal Concertgeboux. As a member of these ensembles she has sung under the baton of Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Louis Langrée, Alan Gilbert, Michael Tilson Thomas, John Adams, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, and Mariss Jansons.
Equally at home in the Musical Theater genre, Sarah has enjoyed performing some of her favorite leading ladies. Recent credits include: Maria (The Sound of Music), Eliza (My Fair Lady), Fiona (Brigadoon), Marian Paroo (The Music Man), Aldonza (Man of La Mancha), Sarah Brown (Guys and Dolls), Belle (Beauty and the Beast), Glinda/Aunt Em (The Wizard of Oz), and Mrs. Banks (Mary Poppins).
Sarah currently resides in Stuttgart, Germany.
